What is mica tape?
What is mica tape?
Mica tape is a tape-shaped insulating material made of natural or synthetic mica as the insulating core, bonded with a reinforcing material (such as glass cloth or film) via a binder. It combines high dielectric strength, high thermal resistance, excellent arc resistance, and good mechanical properties, making it an indispensable key material for the manufacture of fire-resistant/fire-resistant cables and high-performance motor and generator windings.
Where is mica produced?
India, Brazil, China, Russia, Madagascar, etc.
Properties of Mica Tape
Excellent electrical insulation: Extremely high dielectric strength and volume resistivity.
Excellent high-temperature resistance: Depending on the binder and mica type used, thermal resistance can range from Class B (130°C) to Class H (180°C) or even higher (Class C, >180°C). It maintains excellent insulation properties even at high temperatures.
Excellent arc and corona resistance: Able to withstand damage caused by electrical discharges.
Good mechanical strength: The reinforcement provides the necessary tensile, tear, and abrasion resistance.
Suitable flexibility and wrapping ability: This allows it to be tightly wrapped around irregularly shaped objects such as conductors and coils.
Chemical stability: Resistant to most solvents and chemicals.
Flame retardancy: Mica itself is inorganic and non-flammable, and reinforcement materials (such as glass cloth) are also flame retardant.
