A Complete Guide: How to Choose Mica Tapes, Sheets & Tubes
With high heat resistance, excellent insulation and low smoke output, mica products serve extensively in cables, home appliances, industrial furnaces, new energy and rail transit. The three main types — mica tapes, sheets and tubes — differ in form and use. This overview covers their properties and selection tips for quick matching.
Basic Classification of Product Categories
Performance & Application of Subdivided Products
(I) Mica Tape
Phlogopite Mica Tape
It features a temperature resistance of around 750℃, stable insulation and cost-effectiveness. It is ideal for cables in civil buildings and ordinary fire-resistant cables. The three-in-one structure delivers better moisture resistance, making it the preferred choice for outdoor and humid environments.
Synthetic Mica Tape
Boasting high purity, it can withstand temperatures up to 1100℃ with excellent insulation and anti-aging properties. It is widely used for high-end special cables in subways, super high-rise buildings, ships and other facilities.
Calcined Mica Tape
Impurities and crystal water are removed during processing, so it offers reliable fire resistance and high tensile strength. It is primarily applied to high-standard fire-resistant cables for marine, nuclear power, aerospace and other fields.
Tray Mica Tape
With soft texture and excellent conformability during wrapping, it resists acid, alkali and radiation. It suits precision flexible cables and cables operating under special working conditions.
(II) Mica Sheet
Hard Mica Sheet (Series 505/506)
It offers a continuous temperature resistance of 500~700℃ and an intermittent temperature resistance up to 900℃, featuring high mechanical strength and outstanding voltage resistance. It is applied to heating supports for household appliances such as hair dryers, microwave ovens and electric irons, as well as thermal insulation gaskets for metallurgical equipment and locomotives.
Soft Mica Sheet
Flexible and rollable, it resists cracking when bent. With low smoke emission and good environmental performance, it is commonly used for curved surface fitting on transformers, electric heat guns and other equipment.
(III) Mica Tube
Muscovite Mica Tube
It delivers excellent insulation performance and moderate temperature resistance, and serves as outlet bushings for general motors and small electrical appliances.
Phlogopite Mica Tube
Featuring great heat resistance and deformation resistance, it is ideal for electrode insulation protection of industrial electric smelting furnaces and high-power high-temperature equipment.

Core Idea for Product Selection
Mica tape is a flexible fire-resistant wrapping material; mica sheet serves as a structural thermal-insulating and insulating substrate; mica tube is a dedicated tubular protective component. For product selection, first clarify the application scenario as well as temperature and voltage resistance requirements, then match the corresponding material grade and specification with consideration of safety, performance and cost.
